November is World Vegan Month

November is Veganuary month worldwide.

How to care for the earth, your body and animals at the same time? Our answer - a vegan lifestyle. In this way, we do not support the unnecessary suffering of animals and stand up for a better life today and a much nicer future tomorrow.

How did Veganuary Month come about? Avoiding animal products in everyday life has been around for around 2000 years, but the concept of 'vegan' and 'veganism' itself started to take root when the Vegan Society was founded in November 1944.
This is why November has been declared World Vegan Month and is celebrated worldwide with special campaigns and events in support of animals. Latvia is also actively involved in organising various events, for example, the movement "Don't eat the globe" is calling for people to eat more environmentally friendly by reducing the amount of animal products in their diet throughout November.

The health benefits of a vegan lifestyle.

A balanced and wholesome plant-based diet can help human health by reducing the risk of obesity, heart disease and even cancer. Here are just some of the reasons to consider adopting a vegan lifestyle:

  • Veganism helps you lose weight - It has been shown that a plant-based diet can be an important factor in getting rid of excess weight and improving metabolism.
  • Improved blood sugar and kidney function - A large proportion of diabetics who follow a vegan diet have been able to reduce the amount of medication they take on a daily basis.
  • Reduces the risk of heart disease - a daily menu of plant-based foods can lower cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels, which are the most common causes of heart disease.
  • Reduces risk of bowel cancer - A vegan diet reduces the risk of bowel cancer. Eating at least 7 portions of fruit or vegetables a day reduces the risk of premature death by 33% compared to people who eat fewer plant products a day.
  • Energy and well-being - Veganism gives you instantly noticeable energy levels, smoother skin, stronger hair and nails, and fewer allergy symptoms. Not to mention the wellbeing of knowing that your lifestyle reduces animal suffering and environmental damage.

My heart is set on local, nature-friendly and healthy food.

We would like to share with local entrepreneurs who, like us, have a passion for environmentally friendly, healthy and wholesome food. We are delighted to be surrounded by so many enterprising people who bring new flavours to our everyday lives. We sincerely believe that together we can do more and we invite you to think about the ways in which we can reduce our daily meat consumption, improve our quality of life and prevent unnecessary animal suffering.

For wonderful places to find vegan food, take a look at Plants & Friends page, and delicious vegan recipes, many of which we've already tried ourselves, at Vegan in the kitchen. Our family is also very fond of quick, wholesome and simple meals from Delicious and Muesli.
For breakfast, we usually bring the best cashew nut-based cheese from Lifetree Cheese, and hemp seed butter on buns from Obelisk Farm. But we get our energy boost for the day from breakfast cereals from Giant. And when the whole family wants to eat out, we go for burgers from Green Burger and at summer garden parties, we make souslik from Nata Cafe.
There are many celebrations in our family, which we always mark with Vigancakes vegan and gluten-free cakes. We also invite you to try our favourite fruit ice creams from Raspberry and snack on Nutego healthy snacks, which we enjoy with corn galettes.

What can we each do to leave the world as unpolluted as possible?

Of course, not everyone in the world has to become vegan now, but we can engage in various activities to reduce our daily meat consumption, such as trying to eat only plant-based products for 1 month, or only vegan a few days a week, etc.
We encourage you to think about your diet and how it is created and produced, to seek and read information about its impact on the environment and to gradually change your daily eating habits so that we can leave our children and grandchildren a less polluted world.
