VEGAN MONTH - TIME FOR EXPERIMENTATION AND INFORMED CHOICES

Vegan Month - tips for informed choices

Is Veganuary only relevant for vegans?

When many people hear about Veganuary, they think that the challenge is only for vegans or those who are ready to go fully vegan. But that is not the case. During Vegan Month, animal and environmental rights organisations and other like-minded people are shedding more light on the issues surrounding veganism, encouraging people to experiment and choose vegan alternatives more often.

For example, we have previously shared the story that the agricultural sector is one of the world's most polluting industries, ranking 4th among other sectors, accounting for 8.5% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Forests are also being cleared for food, including beef cattle, thus reducing the natural resources available. It is important to mention that the massive consumption of animal products in the world now results in 3 times fewer people than the number of animals bred for this purpose.

While the trends are scary, it is clear that this will not change in a month, a year or even in the next few years. And yet, Veganuary is a great opportunity to take a second look at your daily habits. Of course, most of the people who take part in Veganuary will probably not become vegan within a few weeks. But if we all change just one of our daily choices for the benefit of animals, the environment and, ultimately, future generations of humans, in the long run these statistics might actually improve.

What can I do during Veganuary?

It's all about our habits. For example, the habit of choosing certain foods, cleaning the house with products from a certain manufacturer, choosing certain cosmetics or shopping in the usual shops. Of course, breaking all our habits at the same time would be madness. It would be unhealthy and, most likely, ineffective in the long run.
Startsmall. For example:

1. prepare meals without animal ingredients one day a week.
If you don't feel ready to give up animal products completely, start with one day a week. This will help you to explore different recipes, understand the variety of products and enjoy a wide range of flavours.

By the way, the annual "Don't Eat the Globe" eco-eating challenge will take place in January . Join the challenge and receive delicious vegan or vegetarian recipes and other tips for a greener lifestyle in your email throughout the month.

2.Research the formulation of your cosmetics and the manufacturer's standards.
Your cosmetics manufacturer may not actually include animal products. But unfortunately, many in the beauty industry still test their products on animals. Remember, a vegan product and a so-called cruelty-free approach are two different things. A product can be vegan but at the same time tested on animals. And vice versa. Weigh up your options and choose ethical cosmetics.

3.Explore vegan alternatives for clothing and accessories.
Testing products on animals and using animals to produce food and clothing is equally cruel and unethical. The production of leather clothing, bags, shoes, purses and belts generates a significant percentage of the livestock industry's income.
Fortunately, there are many alternatives today. Instead of leather, suede, wool, silk and other animal products, consider, for example, artificial leather, cotton, linen, acrylic, cork or other alternative materials.
