Sport and skin care, cleansing and care

Effects of sports activities on skin health

Sport and skin care are becoming hot topics as spring approaches and more people are bustling around with more sunshine and birds chirping . Although the warm, bright evenings are still ahead of us, soon we will be able to shed the extra layers of clothes and let our hair down outside.

The thought of spring and warmth also gives us extra energy to devote to the joy of movement. For some, sport is a lifestyle story, for others it is a New Year's resolution to be more active, for others it is a desire to improve their health. And I think sport also inspires healthy changes beyond the gym or the tre admill - the energy and time invested naturally leads to healthier meals and avoiding bad habits.

And it's only natural - physical activity, along with more frequent sweating, removes toxins and helps get rid of dead skin cells. And because it improves blood circulation, it revitalises the skin, makes it look alive, radiant and allows us to experience the changes we want to see, both internally and externally. Sweating also naturally hydrates the skin, which helps it look better in the long run. In addition, the salts and minerals released during sweating act as a natural skin exfoliant, preventing the build-up of make-up residues, toxins and various impurities in the skin.

Why do sports require different skin care?

And yet, while sweating during exercise offers several benefits, it's all based on thoughtful skin care, which is very different from your everyday skin care routine. For example, as sweat flushes toxins and fluid from the skin, there is also a risk of losing the skin's protective layer of natural oils. This risks clogged pores and acne.

Sweating also increases the release of sodium on the skin, which can be particularly harmful if you have sensitive skin or are prone to conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. One of the benefits of sweating is that it removes dirt and unwanted substances from the body, but if toxins and other substances are deposited on the skin after sweating, this can also significantly increase the risk of infections and inflammation. In addition, if sweaty skin comes into contact with clothing, it will cause friction, itching and irritation, which can sometimes lead to unpleasant skin infections.

Dermatologists also point out that sweating increases the release of ammonia and urea from the skin, which are the main triggers of skin inflammation. Increasing your water intake before, during and after exercise and cleansing your skin immediately after exercise can significantly reduce the risk of inflammation, allowing you to enjoy your sport without unnecessary worry.

Facial skin care before and after exercise

From what I've told you above, you must have sensed how different skin care should be - before and after sporting activities. Let's share some practical tips that will help you establish a clear, safe skincare routine during your workouts.

Before training:

  • Remove make-up.
A layer of make-up combined with sweat clogs your pores and is not good for your skin's health.
  • Cleanse your skin.
After removing make-up, it is important to wash your face with a gentle cleanser to make sure there is no residue of make-up or dirt on your skin.
  • Moisturise your skin with cream.
Sound unusual? And yet - this is very important. Sweating dehydrates the skin, so it's important to provide a source of moisture during your workout.

After training:

  • Wash your hands. Make sure you wash your hands before you touch your face - they harbour germs and bacteria from gym equipment that can be harmful to your skin.
  • Get in the shower. This one seems obvious, but it's definitely worth mentioning. It is important not only to neutralise the smell of sweat, but also to prevent the risk of bacterial and fungal infections.
  • Again, moisturise your skin. Taking a shower makes your skin dry and dehydrated. Restore your skin's moisture levels by applying a cream to your face, neck and body.

Sounds simple enough, doesn't it? It seems that the hardest part might be choosing the right skincare products. You want to make sure that the products you take with you don't take up a lot of space and sneak onto your workout clothes or headphones.
