RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CLEANSING YOUR COMPLEXION

Suggestions on how and with what to cleanse your complexion

A variety of facial cleansers - which one to choose?

Foams, gels, milks, micellar waters, toners, scrubs - the range of products for cleansing the face is so wide and varied. Is it really all suitable for every skin type? How not to get confused? And after all, no one wants to get overwhelmed by bottles of cleansers. That's why we've compiled these tips for cleansing your complexion from Inta Rozenberga, a certified specialist in cosmetology. I'll share it with you too!

When cleansing your skin, you need to pay attention not only to the products you use, but also to the step-by-step cleansing process. What does this mean?

  • Remove make-up if you've been wearing it - this is just the start of cleansing, or the first stage of a double cleanse. It's not enough to wash your face once with foam or gel - you can't remove your make-up and cleanse your skin all at once. To remove make-up, choose a product that is as gentle as possible, easy to use and doesn't rub the skin - e.g. Micellar water, which you rinse off with water afterwards. If you do not use make-up, do not do this step.
  • Cleanse your face, neck and décolleté with foam, gel, milk or micellar water - the second stage of double cleansing. Which product to choose? This depends on your skin type and also on the season. And always keep an eye on the condition of your skin and how it feels in the long term, consulting a beautician if necessary.
    • For example, if you have dry, sensitive skin, especially during the heating season, try a cleansing foam in the evening and something milder like milk in the morning. For dry and sensitive skin, over-cleansing can damage the top layer of the skin in the long term, which protects the skin from evaporation of natural moisture.
    • If you have oily or combination skin, it is recommended to choose gel-based cleansers or cleansing foams. I have combination skin- I wash my face in the evening with the foam and in the morning with the Hard Facial Cleanser, which is milder.
  • If milk is used, the skin should be rinsed with water afterwards to avoid irritation and redness. Micellar water is also generally recommended to be rinsed off with water, but this depends more on the formulation - our Micellar Water is rosewater-based, so rinsing with water is optional, but go by feel - if you feel the need to rinse, do so, it won't diminish the effect.
  • Toning the skin is another important step that is often overlooked and underestimated. Toning helps to remove any residue from the cleanser and refreshes the skin, while balancing it and restoring its natural pH level. I use our Micellar Water instead of toner as it has a toning and soothing effect.
  • Then apply a hyaluronic acid serum if needed ( read about when to use a serum here) and/or an eye cream;
  • Finish your facial ritual with a face cream.

And very importantly, your face needs to be cleansed and moisturised every morning and evening. Yes, even if you spend the whole day at home, without make-up.T

Do you need a scrub for your complexion?

The range of facial cleansers also includes exfoliants and scrubs. What does the beautician say about them? It turns out that it's best not to use scrubs on your face. They can cause micro-cracks and traumatize the top layer of the skin. Most likely, the damage caused will not be obvious, but it can create a favourable environment for inflammation and bacteria. And yet, if you want to deep cleanse your skin from time to time, Inta recommends looking for an enzyme peel that suits your skin type. It will be less abrasive and will help to rid your skin of dead skin cells, while leaving your skin looking renewed and fresh.

For example, if your skin is prone to inflammation, it's best to choose an exfoliant that contains glycolic acid, salicylic acid or mandelic acid. A classic enzyme peel, on the other hand, contains papain or papaya extract. It will gently slough off the top layer of dead skin cells and thoroughly cleanse the skin to promote a richer oxygen exchange.

When deep cleansing, it is important to start with the less sensitive areas - forehead, chin, cheeks. Continue with the lower eyelid area, nose, neck. Also, if you are exfoliating for the first time, observe your skin for excessive redness or irritation for the first 24-48 hours after use.
